The Oldest Known Color Photograph (1872)
Before the Autochrome process was perfected in France, this photograph of a landscape in Southern France was taken. No, it is not hand-tinted. This is a color-photograph. (Note: It was published in a Time/Life Book entitled “Color” in 1972, “courtesey of George Eastman House, Paulus Lesser.”)
You are looking at the birth of color photography seven years after the American Civil War. 130 years ago this view of Angouleme, France, was created by a “subtractive” method. This is the basis for all color photography, even today. It was taken by Louis Ducos du Hauron who proposed the method in 1869. It was not until the 1930’s that this method was perfected for commercial use.

The Coolest Table in the World
DB Fletcher Capstan Ilona Expanding Table
With a simple 30-degree rotation, the Fletcher Capstan Table expands by 73%, growing from a capacity of 6 to 12 people in seconds. And…it just looks really cool doing it.
The expanding table shown here is the result of many years of development, but follows a line of history of more than one and a half centuries. This, the Fletcher Capstan Table, is the only table in the world with its unique properties.
It is a circular table which, when rotated at its outer perimeter, doubles its seating capacity, yet astonishingly remains truly circular.
The expansion leaves are stored within the table and, in just four seconds, smoothly and quickly emerge upon rotation, rising and radially expanding outwards as the entire top is turned through 30Ëš. Existing tables can seat six persons when small, and twelve or more when expanded, but there are other design possibilities.
All Capstan Tables are exclusively designed and built, and each one numbered. Careful consideration is always given to a table’s location and components are made to the highest standards. Nautical tables are so constructed that they are able to resist a harsh marine environment to the point that they may be positioned permanently on an exposed deck.
Please understand that this is an extremely special piece of furniture, of exceptional quality and design – it is not for everyone by a very very long way and can only be afforded by the lucky few of us with exceptional wealth.
Specifications
- Tables can be of any style and of any suitable material and are exclusively designed for each commission.
- The area of the table expands by 73% allowing two sizes with seating capacities of six and twelve.
- Typical diameter variation – small size 1.9m (74.75”), large 2.5m (98.5”)
- The operating mechanism is beautifully engineered, simple and robust.
Ok, that’s cool but how about a “walking” table??

How to Write Secret Messages
If you are active in forum or bulletin boards, then this should be a fun thing to do while posting – hide your message! OK, this is pretty simple actually. There are two ways in doing this.
1. Use emoticons
Sounds silly but it works!
Add an emoticon to the post (make sure HTML mode is on) changing the title=”” to whatever you want the secret words to read (remember to enclose those words in “quotations”). Then uncheck the HTML box, finish your post and there you go! Mouseover the emoticon to view the message.

2. Text color same as background
This is very, very simple. Just change the text color of your post to match the background color. To view it, just highlight it.
This is a secret message for you!
