IE7+ for Vista

Vista gets its own version of Internet Explorer 7.0!

IE7+

In an effort to differentiate between versions of IE7 for Windows XP and Windows Vista, the latter will be tagged IE7+. Although both versions are both built on the same code base, Microsoft naturally reserves some features for its brand new operating system.

IE7+ will include additional features such as protected mode, parental controls and an improved network diagnostics engine. According to the IEBlog, these features take advantage of native capabilities in the Windows Vista operating system and it wouldn’t have been feasible to port them to older operating systems.

Notepad Easter Egg: Bush Bug!

This is really cool…never thought Notepad has this nut! But how Bush get involved? Read on…

  1. Open an empty notepad file
  2. Type “Bush hid the facts” (without the quotes)
  3. Save it as whatever you want.
  4. Close it, and re-open it.

You will get this:  ç??桳栠æ?©ç æ?¨æ? æ¡ç´

Actually, this bug has something to with a string of 4-3-3-5 long strings (e.g. abcd efg hij klmno) will also do the same trick.

This is due to a limitation in Windows. Text files containing Unicode UTF-16-encoded Unicode are supposed to start with a “Byte-Order Mark” (BOM), which is a two-byte flag that tells a reader how the following UTF-16 data is encoded.

Try this:

  • Gore ate the crows
  • this got hot stuff

Windows Vista Premium 2007 Requirements

Windows-vista-logoMicrosoft is enforcing tough requirements for PCs that claim to be Vista Premium devices.

At a system level, if it includes a device, then all the requirements associated with that device class must be met for the appropriate compliance level of the logo (basic or premium). To qualify for a basic system logo, the devices of a basic system that includes embedded or add-in devices must comply with the basic requirements (if a logo program exists for the device categories).

Likewise, to qualify for a premium system logo, the devices of a premium system that includes embedded or add-in devices must comply with the premium requirements for the device category.
