Midnightcoders_logoRecently I was searching for a online countdown timer to be embedded into my post and I came across this very awesome tool – Countdown timer by MidnightCoders. This countdown timer is exactly what I wanted, really cool and awesome!

This is a sample Flex application for creating online countdown timers. The application allows to set a date and time when the timer reaches 00 hrs 00 min and 00 sec and export it to any web page.

You can do a few customizations to your countdown. You can set the date and time when should the countdown stops (precision up to seconds, nice ).

Tip: Sort Your Start Menu Programs Folders and Icons

After some time, your Start Menu program list might getting messy and messier, with more and more folders and icons added from time to time.

There is a very simple way to sort them neatly (alphabetically) so that next time it is easier to find a program folder that you want.

This will alphabetize every folder and icon in your Start Menu program list:

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Point to All Programs.
  3. Right-click on any folder in All Programs.
  4. Select the “Sort by Name” option. (*See below)

12 Must Know Terms While Traveling In Canada

This tips are some how quite interesting to know – even if you are not going to travel to Canada.

Canada-maple-leaf1. Loonies and Toonies – These cutesy words are far weightier than they sound. They mean money. Loonies are gold colored $1 coins. Where does this term come from? Well the Loon is the national bird appearing on the front of the $1 coin. The lonesome call of the Loon is a familiar sound in the Canadian wilderness.

2. Toonies – Yes, you guessed it. Toonies are the Loonies $2 cousin.

3. Tuque – The quintessential winter accessory in Canada. We hear that these winter hats are called “ski hats” or “beanies” elsewhere. But Canadians will keep their tuques, thank you very much.

4. Tim Hortons – Canada’s favorite coffee and donut shop. Located throughout the country and often referred to as “Timmies”, it’s a staple in the Canadian diet.

5. Double-double – Often heard at Tim Horton’s, this is the way the “pros” order a coffee with two creams and two sugars

6. Pop – The common word for a soft drink, deriving from “soda pop”. Up here, soda is the fizzy water that’s good for getting pop stains out of clothes.

7. Washroom – A synonym for bathroom, restroom or toilet. Don’t waste precious time looking for the bathroom when all signs point to the washroom.

8. Poutine – With all the multi-cultural foods peppering Canada, be sure to try this homegrown favorite on your vacation. This dish of French fries, cheese curds and gravy originated in Quebec has won fans across the country. Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds!

9. Canuck – This is a term of endearment for “Canadian” as in the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, who can be seen on Hockey Night in Canada. Hockey Night in Canada is a must see TV event for hockey lovers…meaning most of Canada. Ask any Canadian on your vacation to hum the theme song – it’s a catchy one!

10. Runners – These are casual sports shoes, otherwise called sneakers or tennis shoes. “Runners” can join “sneakers” on my unofficial list of oddly named items.

11. Click/Kilometer – Kilometer is such a cumbersome word for measuring distance. The slang “click” is a much faster way to share how many kilometers you’ve traveled on your Canadian vacation.

12. Bill – Although you may run into a few friendly Canucks named Bill, chances are you’ll meet bill more often. In Canada, a bill is what you pay at a restaurant.

So, next time you’re in Canada, counting your loonies and toonies while enjoying your double-double after walking 10 clicks in runners and thinking about asking for the bill …you’ll feel right at home.

10 Most Romantic Tips

Two-tone-heart1. Spread rose petals all over the bedroom.

2. What could be more classic than a fine gold locket with your photo inside? (Maybe a photo of the two of you.)

3. Bring home one small, unexpected gift each week.

4. Write a classic, romantic, passionate, handwritten, heartfelt love letter. Most adults haven’t written a love letter since high school. (Why not? Have we lost our youthful idealism, or have we just gotten lazy?)

5. When traveling, give your partner a bouquet of roses; one rose for each day that you’ll be away. Attach a note that says something like this: “These three roses represent the three days I’ll be away from you. They also symbolize the love, joy, and laughter we share together.”

6. Say “I love you” at least one times a day.

7. Guys: Surprise her by performing one of her chores for her. (And not something easy like carrying the groceries in from the car, but something that requires some time and effort — like cooking all the meals over a weekend, or cleaning the entire house.)

8. Ladies: Send him a letter sealed with a kiss. (Use your reddest lipstick.)

9. Hold hands.

10. On your yearly romantic checklist, make plans for Valentine’s Day — well in advance!

Customize Your Google Homepage With Themes

Dress up your Google homepage with one of six colorful new themes.

The themes add a cartoonish backdrop to the top of the page and tweak text and border colors to match. What’s more, they’re dynamic, meaning they change depending on the time of day. Alas, the background below the header remains as stark and white as ever, and you can’t make custom changes to any of the themes.

Even so, it’s good to see Google finally giving the homepage a little window dressing. On top of that you can add several things like the weather, Time & Date, news, etc….
