How to Cure Hiccups Instantly
If you are having hiccups, this is a really simple method to cure it instantly! I know hiccups are very annoying…so follow this:
- Get yourself a big cup of water.
- Hold your breath and pinch your nose (no breathing!)
- Now, slowly drink up the water you had prepared earlier.
- Keep on swallowing the water until you feel a drowning sensation.
- Stop drinking and take a deep breath.
- OK now?!!
My 2 Cents
This method works 100% all the time for me. Last time, I happened to drink a lot of water, until I barely can talk!

I think this is another of the many examples of resigning ourselves to ridiculous folk remedies rather than insisting for a REAL treatment for problem hiccups (singultus).
This method is an attempt to re-regulate the diapragm and will work some of the time. However, “drowning” yourself in a glass of water is unpleasant, impracticle for most and impossible for many. This will not work when you are giving a speech or presentation, singing a song or playing the flute.
We need to stop accepting hiccups as “normal” and resigning ourselves to kiddie-cures.
Science has the means and technology to re-set the Vagus and Phrenic nerves that initiate these spasms. As long as we keep pretending they are no big deal (and they are not a big deal for everybody) there will be no real answer. In this age of communication it is about time for a reliable, science based cure.
Did you know that 30% of chemotherapy patients suffer singultus (sin-jult-us) as a side effect to treatment? No Joke.

This is the method I’ve used forever, and I just saw this article now, and it’s always worked 100% of the time for me. But aren’t hiccups caused by eating too fast? So would the non breathing + water make the water pressure equal to the eating so your body becomes accustomed and slowly fades down, or is it like washing out your mouth?
