Damn Small Linux, The 50MB Portable Linux
Damn small, yeah it’s really damn small yet damn good! Damn Small Linux or better known as DSL is a very versatile mini Linux desktop packed with tons of features. Only 50MB in size, you can run it from a USB or CD, it’s your choice!
Guess what, DSL also can be hosted within an operating system, meaning that you can run it “inside” Windows (or other Linux OS)! Ya, by the way, it only needs as little as 128MB RAM to run.
DSL is a near perfect desktop with many applications and tools with applications and tools like XMMS (MP3, CD Music, and MPEG), FTP client, Dillo web browser, Netrik web browser, FireFox, spreadsheet, Sylpheed email, spellcheck (US English), a word-processor (Ted), three editors (Beaver, Vim, and Nano [Pico clone]), graphics editing and viewing (Xpaint, and xzgv), Xpdf (PDF Viewer), emelFM (file manager), Naim (AIM, ICQ, IRC), VNCviwer, Rdesktop, SSH/SCP server and client, DHCP client, PPP, PPPoE (ADSL), a web server, calculator, generic and GhostScript printer support, NFS, Fluxbox and JWM window managers, games, system monitoring apps and a host of command line tools.
DSL also has USB support, and PCMCIA support and some wireless support.

*Download note:
There are currently four types of DSL:
- dsl-<version>.iso
The standard isolinux version, which is used for liveCD, frugal, or traditional harddrive install. - dsl-<version>-syslinux.iso
Boots using syslinux instead of isolinux, used for some very old hardware that is no longer supported by isolinux. Use syslinux version if booting fails with the standard iso. - dsl-<version>-embedded.zip
Comes with qemu, for running inside of a host Windows or Linux system. - dsl-<version>-vmx.zip
A virtual machine that will run in VMware or VMware player.
