15 Websites to Bookmark (Volume #1)

Everyone has their personal tool bar of favorite bookmarks, (favorites in IE) but some websites everyone should have. These lists will go through the obvious and not so obvious. All sites listed are free to use.
Want to submit your own site? See bottom of page for more info.

Social Media,

1. Digg.
This is straight forward, I don’t need to say any more, other than if you are not using it start right now.

2. Twitter.
OK maybe it’s not technically a social media website, but if you use it the right way it can boost you website to the next level. Plus it is a great way to tell people what you are up to at all times.

3. StumbleUpon
This doesn’t need to be a bookmark but it needs to be in your firefox plug-ins list and on your toolbar. This is the best way to find the sites you are interested in and help bring traffic to yours.

News,
Everyone still needs the plain old news, but with the environment conservatism boom more newspapers are moving towards Internet readership.

4. CNN, BBC, USA Today, etc.
Reading the news does not mean your turning into your parents, but browsing through the main articles can open your mind to what else is happening in the world.

5. Wired.
News doesn’t have to be about who was elected president of Zimbabwe. It can be a fun and entertaining like many of the post Wired brings up. Plus there are tons of how-to articles.

6. Popurls.
This website could go under every category. It is nothing more than a collection of highly trafficked URLs during the day. You can customize your page to show your favorite feeds, or go default and have the most popular news, youtube videos, flickr photos, blogs, and more at the tips of your fingers. There is also a handy add on if you log in, using open ID. They will track your clicks in the site and place recommend links of the front page.

Blogs,

7. Blog Is Everything.
Need I say more?

8. Zen Habits.
One of the best blogs about productivity and living a great life. Simple post that can change your view of the world.

9. Lifehacker.
Most of these post are short and easy but get the job done by telling you what you want when you need it.

Fun,

10. Flickr.
There is no better site for images than Flickr. With so many users and images on their servers you are in image heaven.

11. Musicovery.
Similar to Pandora this site gives you free Internet radio by typing in the genre and what mood you are in. You are given a nice map of the music that fits into that category. One nice feature is you can pick and choose what song you want to listen to.

12. Whatever social networking site most of your friends use.
If your new to the web don’t rush into Facebook or Myspace because of popular demand. Find the one that fits your needs and has already established some of your friends. Nothing is worse than your only social output is some person from opposite side of the globe.

13. Pandora.
You probably tried Pandora then quit using it three weeks later. I want you to give it a fresh start and try again. Pandora takes your favorite music and shows you all the bands in that same genre. You don’t have to do any work but type a few words and your off to listen. It is so simple and so powerful for day to day listening I have found none better.

14. The sixty one.
OK you tried Pandora and now you want to find the really small bands? Check this site out, bands submit there music and then users decide what goes on the front page. So far it is unplagued by all the Hollywood bands. There is much more to the site, but for the basic user who wants to find new bands most of the features are a little to complex.

15. Ask500people
Ever want to know what other people are thinking? Ask500people allows people to submit their own polls. Using google maps they place your opinion along with a your location on google maps. Once this site kick off it can be a great way to question people and find out how opinions change in different regions.
