Scott Fahlman: The Father and Inventor of Smiley

Scott Fahlman Smiley

Remember :-) and  :-( sideways smiley symbols? I bet you do!

The use of :-) and   :-( was first proposed by Scott Fahlman, a Research Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.

This was back in 1982… and then online bulletin boards or “bboards” are widely used across the Computer Science community. It was like the phenomenon of blogs nowadays.

So Long VPS, Hello to Dedicated!

VPS to Dedicated

It has been about a year plus now on Virtual Private Server. I start up BlogIsEverything.com with a local hosting, this was back in Dec, 2005. Then I spotted midPhase, I switch to them starting with basic shared hosting package, to VPS and now on the way to dedicated.

The people at midPhase has done incredible job to keep my satisfaction in place. Their support is awesome, they reply promptly usually no later than 15 mins. If you ask me, I’ll definitely stay with them for years to come.

2 Years Milestones.

OK, the chronology of BlogIsEverything.com hosting transformation:

  1. Dec 2005: Hive Hosting (local) – Shared Hosting.
  2. May 2006: AnHosting (midPhase) – Shared Hosting.
  3. Nov 2006: midPhase – Silver VPS.
  4. Jul 2007: midPhase – Gold VPS.
  5. Sep 2007: Autica (midPhase) – Gold VPS Pro (up. RAM).
  6. Sep 2008: 10tb (midPhase) – SimpleServer NS01 Dedicated.

Welcome Dedicated!

The current switch to 10tb dedicated server will definitely last for years, it is at least 10x more powerful than Autica Gold VPS Pro. I will have plenty of RAM, HD and bandwidth to spare.

The Specs…

Beast machine! My dedicated server is super powerful. Powered by Quad Core Xeon 3220 (2.4Ghz), 4GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, 1,000GB bandwidth and 1,000Mbps GigE port transfer!

My dedicated server will be backed by SoftLayer as standard for dedicated hosting and hosted at SoftLayer Dallas data center.

More to Come…

Well, she has her own logic behind but this is an open society, critics do happens.

$67 Guide to be Genius, Anyone?

The Complete Guide To Genius…

The Complete Guide to Genius

I stumble upon this website, GeniusIntelligence.com that claims they can teach you how to get a 180 IQ in 6 months! Well, 180 IQ is consider an ultimate genius but uh, no string attached?

The Only Guide You’ll Ever Need To Quickly and Easily Create, Develop and Achieve The Genius of Your Dreams With So Little ‘Work’
You’ll Almost Feel Guilty!

As seen in Science Daily, CNN and India Times.

Well, Einstein supposedly had an estimated IQ of about 160, and we all agree he was a genius not because he had a high IQ but because of his accomplishments.

Richard Feynman had an IQ of about 120, which is an IQ of your good enough smart guy. But by all measurements other than his IQ score he was a freakin genius.

Any thoughts?

Blaze Media Pro: All-In-One Multimedia Tool

You wont need others when you have Blaze Media Pro!

OK, here is why…

I have been very busy lately working on a few projects… in which one of them is a mini multimedia project.

I need to work with audios and videos – editing, converting, tweaking, enhancing… you name it. Well, see I’m not really a pro in multimedia and stuff like that, so a handy and easy to use tool is a plus for me.

I need to convert several audio and video formats, and I know I only have Windows Media Player (this is totally out of scope, it is a player!). So, again I have to go down searching for a appropriate tool.

There are scores of such tools, which allows you to convert audio or video formats like Super Audio Converter, Smart Audio Converter, Xilisoft Video Converter, etc. Well, those are handy, but still not what I’m looking for.

Blaze Media Pro BoxSince, I’m dealing with both audio and video, I somehow need a more versatile tool, which covers both audio and video conversion. Finally, I found this super handy, all-in-one multimedia tool – Blaze Media Pro.

Apple’s Hidden Propaganda Against Windows

“Apple is helping Microsoft to promote its Blue Screen of Death!”

It sounds funny and well probably a little awkward isn’t it? One of my blog readers, Miguel send this tip to me few days ago.

He bumped on this out of no where… He was trying to setup his network his MacBook to connect to a Windows-PC on his Local Area Network. Here is a screenshot he took:

Apple_marketing_windows_BSOD

I discovered that the icon that my Mac OS X Leopard shows for all Windows based PCs is a computer monitor with the famous BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH… I simply laughed my arse off.

This might be an Ester Egg surprise from Apple but definitely a ‘no-good’ sign for Microsoft.

Well, I’m not sure Bill Gates knows about this.

Credit goes to Miguel!
