RocketDock, World’s Best Dock, Some Say So, I Do Too
RocketDock, if you don’t already know, is a great freeware program similar to The Dock on a mac. RocketDock allows you to have your most used programs available in a stylish quick access bar.
RocketDock is the alternatives to windows quick launch that you have been waiting for. I have tried other docks but they failed in some crucial areas. RocketDock lives up to the hype, and preforms the best. It is easy to use and easy on the eye. It comes with 20 default themes and you can download more (the theme in the picture is leopard by skyjohn).
You can download docklets to add extra features to your dock. These range from allowing you to show all the files in a folder, or kk menu, a startup menu similar to the windows start, battery meters and digital clocks. Also there are thousands of icons available from RocketDocks site and various others, i.e. osx-e, and deviantart.
Punk Labs has made the dock very user compatible. To add docklets, icons, or themes you simple copy the folder to the RocketDock folder in your hard drive and ,quoting Steve Jobs, “Boom” you have added extra capabilities to your dock. To remove programs you simple drag them off the dock and a short animation confirms the removal.
So far, I have yet to find any major issues with this dock and it has inspired me to switch my XP interface to a mac style theme. For accessibility RocketDock is great. It allows you to minimize windows to the dock and move the dock to all sides of the screen. Of course it is very friendly to eye and never gets in the way, and all options are one click away.
The only issue I have found is when auto hide is turned on the mouse over option seems to only work if I drag the cursor bellow the docks position. Though unless you have the dock towards the center of the screen this shouldn’t be a problem. One thing I hope to see in the next update is a auto minimize to the dock, like the windows tool bar. That way in case you forget to minimize the window and you cover it you can just go to the dock and click tab.
In the end, this is an excellent program for anyone who wants a quick, stylish alternate for windows quick launch.
Enjoy
