How To Remove Ads (AdSense) From Gmail

NOTE: Removing ads from Gmail is illegal! Do it at your own risk. Below is just for education purposes.

Gmail LogoGmail without doubt is one of the best if not the best free email service ever. You get a clean interface, tons of storages, fantastic email search (powered by Google of course), Google Docs integrations, Gmail Labs and many more. It is a true gem for me and I have been using it since its initial roll out (that is about 6 years ago).

Well, the only complain is of course the ads (AdSense) that stick to the top (sometimes) and right panel of Gmail. Those ads are not obstructive as they are not embedded directly into the email content but sometimes, they look a little bit irritating to the eyes and quite annoying.

So if that is the case, get rid of those… but how? Basically, there are two ways of doing this (works with Firefox only) — using extensions (plugins) or modify Firefox’s usercontent.css. I’ll go with the more easy and straight forward way, Firefox extension — Greasemonkey with Gmail Beautifier script.

Gmail Beautifier basically “beautify” your Gmail by hiding AdSense in Gmail and thus widens the email body.

OK. First thing first, get Greasemonkey installed. Go here, install, download and restart your Firefox and you are done. It wont take you longer than 5 minutes, I swear!

Now go to here to install Gmail Beautifier. The process is pretty much like installing a Firefox extension minus restarting. OK, done!

Now login to your Gmail, open any single email and you should not see the ads by default and you get a wider email body :-) . Gmail Beautifier helps you hide the AdSense ads, but you have the option to toggle it on and off (hide/show).

Note: The New window, Print all and Create a document links will also be hidden. To show these links, just toggle “Show Ads Pane” arrow.
