Tip: Use Notepad as a Dairy

The Power of Notepad

NotepadNotepad is not just a simple, 69 KB text writing tool. It can do more than that – some even off your imagination! Notepad can be used to write simple text to coding, scripting, hacking… you name it.

Writing Your Dairy, YES!

You hear it right! You can use Notepad to write your dairy too, complete with time stamp. No need to install fancy dairy tools, Notepad has the capacity to get the job done with just a plain text file.

Yup, no fancy no nothing – just a plain vanilla text file to story your text in a dairy form.

How to Do It

OK, here is how… simple step by step instructions:

  1. First of all, you need Notepad for sure. So, go and open your Notepad.
  2. Type in .LOG and press [Enter] for a new line. Save your file (as .txt). I named mine dairy.txt. (See screenshot below)
  3. Close your Notepad and you are done!

[Step 2]

Now, every time you want to write something just reopen your text file (e.g. dairy.txt) and type in what ever you want. You will have the time stamp pre-written for you.

Note: Remember to press [Enter] every time you wrote something to leave a line space for the next line of text.

Enjoy!

    Hi Mattew,

Its a fantastic tip for a blogger. I normally use the .txt file to store most of the blogging thoughts, plans, URLs.

Now I can have the timestamp with that. Fantastic.

I also tested this tip by changing the extension of the file from .txt to some new extension. (e-g) .v4v It worked.

This tip also worked in Textpad where I am used to. So this tip is not only for Notepad, but also for all other text editors. Also the extension can be changed.
As long as having a .LOG in the first line, it works fine in all editors.

    Thanks for sharing this.
